Hey guys! So, this blog post will not be one of my regular reviews. Instead I will talk a little bit about what's going on in my life right now. So I have been asking my dad if I can get a new book shelf, new windows, and paint my room for a while now and he finally said yes! So for the next few weeks I might not post that many reviews because I have packed up most of my books into boxes and I have put them somewhere else. So I might post a review on a book that I read awhile ago or I might do something different(I haven't decided yet). Anyway, while packing up my books, I decided to have a little fun! So, what I did was I basically took some of my hardcovers and turned them into a book Christmas tree(yes, I realize that Christmas was a month ago;) but, alas, I do not really care). This was a lot of fun to make and was super easy. Also, when i was taking all of my books off of my shelves it was also very fun to put my books into piles and to see how tall I can make it! Overall, my book boxing experience was very fun, even though I have a bunch of boxes full of books in my hallway now!
So yeah, I hope that all of you have a great week and if you have and books that you would like me to review, please comment below! -Cami (Also, you may notice the book Carry On by Rainbow Rowell on the top of my tree. So, the reason why that is there is because it is my FAVORITE NOVEL OF ALL TIME!!!)

Today I will be reviewing The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. This novel is about a girl who lives in a world where vampires are a(new) part of society. She wakes up the night after the party to discover that everyone is dead(except her of course). As she begins to escape she discovers a vampire boy chained to a bed, and her ex who has gone "cold"(will turn into vampire if fed human blood within the next 88 days). She escapes with them and goes to the nearest Coldtown. Coldtowns are where captured vampires get placed. Once there she gets pulled into the vampires world and falls in love with one of the most dangerous vampires ever.
So, when I first picked up this book I thought that it was a sci-fi book about some deadly disease, based off of the description. I quickly realized that, no, in fact it was a vampire novel. I was fine with that so I continued reading. The beginning started out ok but it slowly became worse and worse, but i still stuck with it. At the ending, I honestly was shaking my head. It was terrible. The main problem with this book is the protagonist. She is so stupid. She says and does the dumbest of things. I dont really want to give examples because they are spoilers but trust me on this, she is terrible. During the book, it is repeatedly said how the 'Thorn of Istra' is crazy and mad. So when you find out who that is, the author randomly puts quotations, and etc. to make him sound mad. These things come randomly and out of place. Also, the main character starts randomly laughing big huge laughs for no reason at the end out the book, kind of like the author is forcing their madness upon us. Another thing is how rushed the protagonist and another character's relationship is. They talked approximately 3 times the he gives her his deceased sister's necklace? And they say all of this romantic stuff to each other after only knowing each other for a few days and only having a few previous conversations? Really? This whole book feels rushed. If Holly Black took a little bit more time with it and stretched it out a little bit more, it would have been way better. The book(near the end) seems like it wanted to go then this happened, then this happened, then this happened, with little transition. I would not recommend this book because it has a terrible protagonist and it is rushed and kind of choppy. If you have any recommendations for books that I should read next please, feel free to comment below! -Cami So today I would like to review the first book in my, by far, favorite trilogy ever. This book is Half Bad by Sally Green. This book is about a world where there are witches. But they are not regular types of witches. There are the black witches and the white witches(skin color does not determine this). These witches don't really have any power until their "giving ceremony" at the age of seventeen. They live undetected to society but still function as normally and even have their own council building. This world is also set in modern day England.
This book tells the story of a boy whose mom is a white witch and whose dad is the worst black witch. There is a (kind of) prophecy that says that this boy -Nathan- will kill his father. The Council(which consists of just white witches) tests him every year to see if he will "be" a white witch or a black witch so that they can hopefully get him to kill him father. But he doesn't want to. This book was amazing. It was a truly unique plot unlike others that I have seen before. She had a completely new take on the typical witch and she shows us all kinds of people. Her words give many feels to her readers. I love her writing style. I would 100% recommend this book for everyone because its not that hard to read(if you're not very emotional because this book hits you right in the feels) and it has a great plot. And as a bonus, the trilogy's covers are gorgeous(which coincidentally is the exact reason why I originally bought this book because I, most of the time, choose books by their covers/titles). If you have any recommendations for books that I should read next please, feel free to comment below! -Cami |
