Hey guys! So this week I will be reviewing Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff!
Hardcover book length: 608 pages
My rating: 5/5 stars
Description on front flap: "This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than a speck at the edge of the universe. Now with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to evacuate with a hostile warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A plague has broken out and is mutating with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a web of data to find the truth, it’s clear the only person who can help her is the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again."
My Review: This book was absolutely amazing! It is told through a series of internet transactions, such as DM's, transcripts of interviews and events, and etc. I have seen books written like this before but they usually just stick to one form of the internet such as only texts or only emails. This book took a whole new variation of this genre by using multiple forms which really was amazing.
One of my favorite parts of this book was how they told the story. You might think that because the story is told using the internet, that it would be hard to find descriptions of things and a lot of detail. But you are wrong. It felt as if you are really there. You are really absorbed into the story which makes it so hard to put the book down!
The characters of the story where really good. I loved their love-hate relationship type thing that was going on. I loved that they had a strong female character that you can really understand even though it is just through the internet.
The story was overall so amazing and very interesting. For those who like sci-fi, this would be a great book for you because it really dug into the genre.
