The Diabolic tells the story of a girl named Nemesis who is a Diabolic. Diabolics are human-like creatures that and killing machines. At a young age, they are bonded to the person who bought them and feel an undying devotion to them. Nemesis serves Sidonia, the young heir to the galactic Senate. But when the Emperor summons Sidonia to the galactic court to use as a hostage, Nemesis goes in her place.
My two most favorite things about this book were the world building and characters that the author wrote. She has created such a beautiful world, that while is dangerous, incredibly beautiful. Set mostly in space, the author does an incredible job at describing many of the locations, technologies, and events that happens in the book. This makes you feel like you are really there with the characters throughout the story.
The characters in the book were really god because they had lots of different aspects to them that you might not expect. Also, I loved the planning and trickery that many of he characters exhibited. Often times in a book, the author just says 'they are super cunning and mischievous' but they don't show anything from the characters to back it up. But, in this book, the author actually backs up er claims, which really adds to the characters.
The reason why I am giving this book only three stars is a combination of the author's writing style and plot. So starting with her writing style, it's not that I didn't like her style, its just that it was a bit confusing at times. The author made random time jumps at places, and sometimes I couldn't figure out if she was talking about a past event or something that was currently happening which made it a bit confusing at times. Her writing was still very captivating, but I was just a little confused at times.
Now on to the plot. While at first glance, this plot seems very interesting, and don't get me wrong it is, it is also a bit predicable. At several points in time, I could successfully predict what would happen next. But, that didn't mean that it was like that throughout the book, and in fact I was surprised by the way she ended the book, but it certainly did happen a few times.
I recommend this book to people who are looking for a interesting read filled with cool characters and places, but a easy to understand plot and very cheesy ending. Fans of romance, sci-fi, and cunning yet lovable characters will love this book. This book was pretty interessting, just not exactly my forte.
